Nerja 41 Club which is a club for Ex Round Tablers from all over the world enjoyed a Swedish evening run by two of our Swedish members. Ragnar and Lennart along with their ladies Lillian and Agneta provided an evening showing us how children dress by tradition on Santa Lucia day which is seen in Sweden as being the beginning of the Christmas season. The tradition is for the oldest girl in the family to dress in a white robe with a red sash and wear a crown of candles and lingonberry. She is dressed as St Lucia. The other girls dress in white with silver crowns. The boys wear pointed silver hats and carry wands with stars on them.
We were given lessons in Swedish etiquette, Lessons in Toasting the Ladies, Lessons in singing in Swedish, Lessons in drinking Snaps, Lessons in eating Herring, Lessons in Swedish words, facts and folklore as well as Swedish dancing.
Chairman Jim presented Alfie Fornear with a special jewel for running the Iberian 41 Cluster of Spanish Clubs a couple of years ago, for raising the bar for attendance at these events to new hights and demonstrating to other Clubs what can be acheived through effective planning and marketing.
